Read on Sonoma Awards Week

Read On, Sonoma! recognized and awarded 672 students who met their 1st Trimester Accelerated Reader goals! Award assemblies were held at Alexander Valley, Kenwood, Madrone, Mark West, Riebli and San Miguel Elementary Schools the week of November 22, 2023.

So far for the 23-24 school year, our students have already read 15,491 books, which is an average of 14 books per student (this is up from 10 books on average this time last school year!)

  • 11 students have read a million words

  • 63% of students met their first trimester goal (up from 43% at this time last year)

  • 92% of quizes taken were passed

The Accelerated Reader Program through Renaissance Learning is the tool we use to practice and support reading in our classrooms. Students are able to choose to read a book or article that is of interest to them. A reading level and goal are set for each student based on where they are as readers. When a student completes a reading, they take a short quiz to monitor comprehension. Based on their score, students are given points toward their individual goal. At the end of each trimester, awards are delivered to each school where we celebrate reading. Progress is monitored through a diagnostic benchmark, STAR Reading, taken three times a year.
